Biocides and their products are a widely diversified range within LANXESS product portfolio being used to destroy and/or control harmful organisms, including bacteria, fungi, viruses and insects. In many countries biocides as well as products containing biocides, may only be sold if they have been previously registered with and approved by the authority following a complex process.

In Europe, where biocides are traditionally relatively strictly regulated, LANXESS has a long tradition and can therefore draw on many years of experience and a broad knowledge base.
LANXESS ensures the marketability of the biocidal products in Europe through registration of biocides in accordance with the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR). Because of our large product portfolio, we have notified an extraordinarily large number of active ingredients.
In addition, we provide our customers with registered frame formulations according to the above-mentioned regulations and assist them in registering their own products based on LANXESS active ingredients.
In the U.S., there is strict legislation on biocides. Here again, LANXESS can draw on many years of experience and a broad knowledge base.
LANXESS secures the biocidal products business in the U.S. through registration of biocidal active ingredients and biocidal products under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In the area of disinfection, we provide our customers with frame formulations.
